    – protected variety, head license: Flevo Berry, Netherlands

The variety Magnus is a late variety from the breeding program of Flevo Berry. This variety has a ripening period app. 10 days after Florence/Faith with attractive berries, a good taste, and high in harvest. Magnus’ berries are big and uniform in size, and tapered. The color of the fruit is a light to medium red with an attractive glow.
Magnus convinces with a nice appearance in the punnet and a high percentage of class A berries.
It blossoms shortly under foliage and can be picked well.
The variety is very robust and high in yield. Therefore it should be planted with a slightly higher distance between the individual plants. Magnus is especially resistant to leave diseases. As with all late ripening varieties special attention should be paid to thrips and Blossum weivel ! Due to its yield, the firmness of the berries, and the light berry color Magnus is an interesting supplement for the late range in trade marketing.

Careful about too much nitrogen – bad inflorescence!

The variety Magnus has the problem that under certain conditions it will stay vegetative and then it won’t grow enough blossoms. To avoid that, the supply of nitrogen needs to stay at a minimum. Well supplied soil doesn’t qualify for the cultivation of Magnus! Pre-cultures which reveal nitrogen are also not suitable. Towards the end of summer this variety can be “tortured” a little bit, no or only a little bit of manure, no mildew treatment etc. The cultivation risks for frigo plants are even higher as for green plants. Cultivating this variety should take place after consulting the breeder (Flevoberry).
